Kattingeri, 22 July 2011: Demonstration of cultivation of paddy saplings and other agricultural work using agricultural machine was demonstrated in a program held at the premises of the residence of Devdas Hebbar – President of Taluk Panchayath, in Kattingeri, Moodubelle on Thursday 21st July 2011. The program was jointly organized by University of Agricultural Science Bangalore, Agricultural Science Centre Brahmavara, Agricultural Department of Jilla Panchayath, Udupi Taluk Shri Kshethra Darmastala Gramabivrudi Yojane, Udupi Jilla Krishi Sangha and Lions Club Moodubelle.
The program began in the morning at 10.30 am, with the welcome speech by Devdas Hebbar. Jesintha Aranha – President of Grama Panchayath Moodubelle presided over the program. Ida Gibba D’Souza – Member of Jilla Panchayath inaugurated the demonstration of Paddy saplings and Agricultural machine. In her speech Ida Gibba D’Souza said that, the government is giving the subsidised loan for the purchase of agricultural machines. The farmers should make use of this opportunity which will help them in their agricultural works, she said.
The Chief Guests, guests and other dignitaries present on the occasion were; Kuylyadi Suresh Nayak – President of A.P.M.C Udupi, Dr. M. Hanumantappa – Deputy Research Director Zonal Research Centre Brahamavar, Krishnaswami Rao – Deputy Director of Agriculture Udupi Taluk, Keshava Gowda – Director of Sri Ksherta Darmastala Gramabivrudi Yojane (Regd) Udupi District, Bantakal Ramakrishna Sharma – President of Jilla Krishi Sangha, Rajendra Shetty – President of Lions Club Moodubelle, Dr. B. Dananjay – Coordinator of the event & Scientist at Agricultural Science Brahmavara, Devdas Hebbar – President of Taluk Panchayath Udupi, Srinivas Bhatt – Secretary of Krishi Sangha, Vijay Kumar – Darmastala Project Officer and Abraham Fernandes – Secretary of Krishi Sangha.
When this reporter asked on the objectives of this event to Devdas Hebbar, he said that, today’s young generation prefer to take up the jobs in the Offices and Industries. No one is willing to work in the farms or fields of agriculture, which has caused shortage of labour to carry out all the agricultural and cultivation works. Therefore now people will have to depend on these machines to do the work. This event is organized to introduce these machines to the farmers so that they can know the details and its benefits, he said.
