Mumbai, 08 Feb 2017: The Maharashtra Directorate NCC contingent returned home jubilant having bagged the runner’s up trophy, from amongst 17 Directorates, at the prestigious inter-state Prime Minister’s Banner competition during the Republic Day Parade events held at New Delhi in January 2017. Keeping up its illustrious tradition, the Maharashtra contingent won a rich haul of trophies and medals in the Republic Day parade. The euphoric contingents of 115 NCC cadets were felicitated by the State Government, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Western Naval Command and General Officer Commanding, MG & G Area.
Vinod Tawde, minister of school education and sports, congratulating the cadets, praised the dedicated and selfless service put in the various social service activities that the NCC had participated in and exhorted them to further strive upon their path to becoming responsible citizens. He congratulated the officers, staff and NCC cadets for their remarkable achievements. He expressed that the enormity of cultural and academic affluence that this corps has achieved truly sets a glorious illustration to the society.
Vice Admiral Girish Luthra, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command, Mumbai interacted with the Maharashtra contingent and congratulated the young achievers. He stated that the NCC has been at the forefront of molding the youth by providing them opportunities for all-round development.
Major General Anuj Mathur, Officiating General Officer Commanding Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa Area in his congratulatory message stated that the NCC is a domain of excellence that had engraved a niche for itself within the inexhaustible national challenges.
Earlier, the Cadets Contingent had been formally presented a memento commemorating their participation in the prestigious Republic Day Camp 2017 by the Maharashtra NCC Directorate.
Speaking on the occasion, Major General D S Gill, ADG Maharashtra, praised the cadets for their outstanding performance at the Republic Day camp and called upon them to motivate the coming generations to emulate their success. He brought out the important roles that were destined to play in the future of the Nation and called upon them to live up to the NCC motto ‘Unity and Discipline’.
