Mangaluru, 09 Jan 2017: Xavier Industrial Training Centre (XITC), Asaigoli, near here, a unit of Xavier Educational Trust (XET), hosted Inauguration of Mid-Day Meal for their students here on Sunday, January 8. The Mid-Day Meal Program was started under the auspices of late) Rose and Sebastian Vas Memorial Endowment Fund which was set up by Xavier Educational Trust on May 15, 2016.
The programme began with invoking God’s blessings through a prayer song rendered by the students of XITC. The chairman of XET and well-known advocate.Christian Marriages Registrar, J J V Fernandes welcomed the gathering and gave a brief history of XET and XITC and introduced the dignitaries on the dais.
Fr Dr Stanislaus D’Souza, Provincial, Karnataka Jesuits was the chief guest who presided the funciton.
Brian Vas, proprietor of Vas & Sons was the guest of honour. The programme was inaugurated by the dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion, Fr Dr Stanislaus D’Souza lauded the selfless work rendered by the founders of XET and the Board of Trustees by providing technical education to the poor and the marginalized sections of the society. He urged the students to be worthy citizens of the country. He further advised that the education they receive in this Institution should benefit the students to render fruitful service to the society and country.
Twelve meritorious students of XITC were presented with scholarships from late Lawrence. Fernandes Memorial Scholarship Fund. The scholarship was presented by Dr Michael Lobo, renowned genealogist of Mangaluru, on behalf of Michael B Fernandes, chairman of Lawrence Fernandes Foundation, Bangaluru.
Brian Vas, son of late Rose and Sebastian Vas, acknowledged and appreciated the efforts taken by XET in fulfilling his mother’s wishes and desire. He inaugurated the Mid-Day meal Programme on behalf of Vas Family by lighting the lamp placed before the portrait of late Rose Vas followed by showering flower petals by other family members and dignitaries.
The vote of thanks was rendered by XET secretary F M Lobo who thanked the dignitaries present on the dais and everybody involved in making the function a success.
Sudhir Raj B Kotian, principal of XITC was also present. XITC – JTO Shivananda compered the programme.
