Udupi, 03 Nov 2016: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) filed a preliminary charge sheet running into 1,300 pages in the businessman Bhaskar Shetty murder case in the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate here on Wednesday, November 2.
Addressing media persons here in SP office on Wednesday, CID Superintendent of Police Iada Martin Marbaniang said that the evidences provided and scientific analyses have shown the charges against accused Rajeshwari Shetty (wife), accused two Navneeth (son) and Niranjan Bhat (Astrologer) third accused to be true.
The CID found that there was enmity between the trio and Bhaskar on the issues of property ownership and extra-marital relationship. He said that Bhaskar had stepped out after having a bath around 3.00pm on July 28, the accused sprayed pepper spray on his face, beat him with iron rods, administered poison and drowned him in a bathtub. Later, accused put him in homa kunda in Niranjan’s house. Niranjan and his driver Raghavendra cleaned the room and dispersed the remains of Bhasker in a nearby rivulet. After the DNA analysis to the forensic science laboratory and as per DNA report and evidences, the CID has filed a preliminary charge sheet. Navneet and Niranjan had been charged with murder and destruction of evidence under sections 302, 201, 204, 120B IPC while Srinivas and Raghavendra had been charged with destruction of evidence, he said.
CID SP refused to comment on the possible role of the underworld in the crime from Mumbai. Around 70 to 80 statements are recorded and the cyber forensic reports are pending.
Additional Senior Civil Judge and Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court extended the judicial custody of accused Rajeshwar and Navneeth and Niranjan Bhat till end of November, he said.
