Bantwal, 31 May 2016: The athletes/sportsmen/sportswomen are not identified on the basis of their religion and caste; instead they are recognized by their achievement in their respective sphere. The achievers in sports get higher respect than others, said Mangaluru municipal assistant commissioner Dr Ashok.
Dr Ashok was the chief guest speaking during the valedictory function of UPL – 2016, 2-day football league matches that were organized by United Sports Club on the shore of Netravati River at Farangipet, here on Sunday May 29.
The football games in India should get its due as football widely played in worldwide countries, said Dr Ashok. He recalled his college days when he was a footballer. He advised the organizer to identify government land in Farangipet here to develop a football ground.
United Sports Club president and ZP former member Ummer Farouq in his presidential address said that the Club has been promoting rural talent in sports by organizing different games. It also engaged in social welfare activities besides encouraging local sportsmen. He also announced the financial support to those students who pursue IAS and IPS.
Atlas Gold proprietor Mohammed Shafi, Jabbar Maripalla, Rafiq Perimar, United Sports Club vice president Asif Melmane, Gafoor Dubai, Shahul Hameed, TP former member Asif Iqbal, Pudu gram panchayat vice president Hashir Perimar, member Ramlan Maripalla, Ibrahim Kumpanamajal, Latif, Imtiaz Thumbay, Bafi, Salim Telli and others were present.

Eight teams have participated in league matches. Eleven Jagors team from Arkula defeated Today Soccer’s to bag the trophy. Dr Ashok presented the trophy during the valedictory function.
