Mumbai, 22 March 2016: G P Kusuma, poet and former editor of Mogaveera monthly bulletin bagged doctorate from Mumbai University for her theses on A cultural study on Mogaveer community in Mumbai that was prepared with the guidance of Mumbai University head of Kannada department Dr G N Upadhya.
Dr Rekha Bannady, head of department of Kannada, Bhandarkars College, Kundapura presented the doctorate, gold medal and draped the shawl to G P Kusuma, during the programme held at Ranade Bhavan, Mumbai University, Vidhyanagari, Kalina ampus, Santacruz (East) here on Monday March 21.
Dr G N Upadhya in his presidential address lauded the contributions of Mogaveer community.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rekha said, ‘Kannadigas in Mumbai are motivated to research owing to wide issues, such as poverty, increasing population and unemployment. Mogaveer community is secular where their women also contribute significantly for the family income. The theses penned by Kusuma opened up new vista of cultural hierarchy preserved by the community in the jet-set life in metro.
