Puttur, 15 Aug 2015: Suraksha Consumer Forum, NSS Unit, Rovers-Rangers Unit, Eco Club and Department of Social Work of St Philomena College here, jointly organized an awareness programme on ‘Solid and Liquid Waste Management in Rural Areas’ at SJM Hall here on August 13, 2015.
Rohith A R, district nodal officer, department of water and sanitation was the resource person. While presenting on the topic, Rohith said, ‘In India, especially in rural areas, waste is a severe threat to the public health concern and cleanliness. Though, the form of waste (both solid and liquid) generated in rural areas is predominantly organic and biodegradable, yet becoming a major problem to overall sustainability of the ecological balance.’
The town councilor Vinaya Bhandary was the guest of honor. The College vice principal Professor Vishnu Bhat presided the function.
The town council community organizer Usman, health inspectors Ramachandra and Shwethakiran were present on the occasion.
Sahana Rao and group presented the environmental song. Paul Herald Mascarenhas, head of department of social work welcomed the gathering. Meenakshi, convener of Rovers-Rangers proposed the vote of thanks. Dinakara Rao, director of Suraksha Consumer Forum compered the programme.
