Kundapur, 24 Jul 2015: A brave heart girl rescued her sister from drowning in Souparnika river here.
Jyothi Marathi, a 10th standard girl is the brave heart girl who saved her cousin Mamatha Marathi from drowning who was studying in 9th standard at the high school run by Kollur Shree Mookambika temple.
On July 20 Jyothi, Mamatha and three other girls had gone to school. But after crossing Souparnika river they came to know that the school had declared a holiday due to heavy rains.
The girl’s gang was happily returning to their homes when Mamatha slipped and fell into the river. Without thinking twice, Jyothi dived into the river and managed to catch hold of Mamatha, but found it difficult to bring her back. The water flowing with such force that it dragged them two hundred meters away from the original place. Finally Jyothi managed to bring Mamatha back to the shore. Both were admitted to a hospital later.
Jyothi has become talk of the town now. She is recieving accolades from everywhere for her bravery.
