Bantwal, 15 Jul 2015: Three construction workmen died in a landslide whilst working in a site located near Pudu gram panchayath office at Farangipet, here on Saturday July 11.
The deceased has been identified as Milon, Torikol and Maimenol, all migrant labourers from West Bengal.
Seven workmen of West Bengal origin were working on a construction site of Sayyed Bawa, a resident of Farangipet, here. The landslide occurred on Saturday afternoon, when 3 workmen trapped in the heap of soil. The locals rescued another workman who was trapped in soil up to his waist and taken him to hospital at once, informed the eyewitnesses.
The locals began the early operation by clearing the mound of soil by earthmovers with the herculean task of rescuing 3 workmen trapped underneath. Meanwhile, the fire fighters and home guards from Manglauru and Bantwal arrived.
Dakshina Kannada SP Dr Sharanappa, V S Kumar, ASP Rahul Kumar, circle inspector Belliappa, Bantwal rural sub-inspector Rakshit, town sub-inspector Nanda Kumar, probationary sub-inspector Manjunat, police personnel of both stations were also present.
The dead bodies of 3 workmen were retrieved by Saturday evening and sent for autopsy at district Wenlock Hospital, Mangaluru.
ZP former member Ummer Farouq, local leaders Asir, Ramlan, T K Basheer, Khader Pavoor, Ismail Pavoor and Akthar Hussein assisted in rescue operation.
TP president Yashwant Deraje, Pudu gram panchayat president Laxmi, vice president Sharif, Tahsildar Purandara Hegde, TP CEO Cyprian Miranda, revenue inspector Narayan Poojary, village accountant Pradeep were present throughout the operation.
