Bantwal, 11 May 2015: A village accountant employed in revenue department committed suicide by consuming poison in a lodge at Mangaluru was reported on Sunday May 10 morning.
Thirty-three-year-old Chidanand was a village accountant of Thumbay gram panchayat committed suicide. His body was placed at taluk office on Sunday afternoon and later handed over to the family to perform last rites in Mysore.
Chidanand left behind a 6-page death-note that was recovered by the police, informed Bantwal circle inspector K U Belliyappa. The death-note states neither his colleagues nor his family is responsible for his act; instead he took the drastic decision because of depression caused from an astrologer’s prophecy.
He had joined revenue department in 2006 working as village accountant in gram panchayats of Alike and B Kasba. He was working in Thumbay gram panchayat when he committed suicide. He was living in a rented house along with his wife Chaitra and one-and-a-half-year-old son Samrudd at Goodinabali in B Mooda village. He met his friend Shivappa, village accountant of Kadeshwalya at B C Road, here on Friday May 9 afternoon and informed him that he will go to Mysore and not traced.
The staff of hotel where Chidanand stayed in Mangaluru informed the revenue officials about his suicide on Saturday May 9 late night. Tahsildar Purandar Hegde and revenue officials arrived at the hotel and identified the dead body. The autopsy was done at Wenlock Hospital and later the body was handed over to the family. The department also gave Rs 5,000 for transport and last rite. Tahsildar Purandar Hegde, deputy Tahsildar Vaman, revenue inspector Narayan Poojary, revenue and survey department officials and others offered tributes to the departed soul of Chidanand on the occasion.
