Mangaluru, 08 Mar 2015: Ramakrishna Mission carried out Swacch Mangaluru for Swacch Bharath - cleanliness drive on 5th consecutive Sunday at M G Road - Jail Road - SDM College Campus – Hampankatta here on March 8.
About 150 PG and degree students from SDM and other prestigious institutions, devotees and well wishers of our Ashram and other eminent persons took part in the cleanliness drive carried on for 3 hours in the morning. Swami Jitakamananda, president of Ramakrishna Muu, here, Dr Devaraj, director of SDM PG Institute, Dr Jeevaraj Sorake, managing director of SCS Hospital flagged off the 6th week’s drive at SDM College campus here on Sunday March 8.
One team of volunteers cleansed the campus of SDM College campus and near by areas and cleared the compound walls of SDM College and painted the walls after which they cleaned the Jail road. Another group of volunteers cleared the dumping sites opposite of University College in Hampankatta relaid the stone slabs over drains for public utility and cleared the spaces of garbage to provide more parking space to public vehicles.
The handbills on Swacch Bharath Abhiyan were distributed to the public on the occasion.
This is a part of the 40-weeks Cleanliness Drive being organized by the Ramakrishna Mission and initiated on February 1. Under this the student volunteers assemble in the Ashram here on Saturday evenings for an evening retreat, ‘Swacch Mana’ where they are taught meditation, bhajans and inculcation of values of social responsibility.
