Bantwal, 16 Feb 2015: A wandering leopard has spoilt the sleep of many since it has been sighted in the Agrar-Loretto area in the outskirts of Bantwal town on Sunday February 15.
It has been sighted by a lady named Shalma near her house.
Some have also seen the leopard going down the Cross Hill the next day.
It is a custom for some of the youth in the area since few years to steal tender coconuts, plantains and other farm produce from neighbours’ lands. But the movements of the leopard have halted all their movements after the sunset.
Since most of the residents of the area are agriculturists have one or more cattle in their houses. Some have also lost sleep since couple of days and have urged the forest department to take necessary steps.
There are many from the areas who work in Mangalore and return home late night who are worried about the leopard movement.
The forest officials who have promised to take necessary measures have not undertaken any concrete measures to divert the leopard to the dense forest.
