Puttur, Dec 20, 2014: Divya Chethana Association of St Philomena College here celebrated Christmas on Wednesday December 17 with great pomp at their silver jubilee memorial hall, here on Wednesday December 17.
The chief guest of the function, Fr Assisi D’ Almeida, parish priest of Maril church said, ‘Today all the festivals including Christmas have been commercialized. There will be a true meaning for the festival only when we try to have an insight about ourselves, know what we are, what we are and what we can become and enlighten ourselves and our family.’
The guest of honour Professor Leo Noronha, principal of the College said, ‘Christmas is an event when we celebrate our lives and transform us. It should not just be an external celebration but we should take an opportunity to bring about a positive change.’
Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, campus director and chairman of PG studies in his presidential address, remembering the Christmas Carol ‘Silent Night, Holy Night’ written by Joseph Moras he said, ‘Everybody can celebrate Christmas, be it rich, poor, weak, strong, healthy or unhealthy if we are able to enjoy the holiness, peace, serenity and the joy in our hearts.’
During the celebration, the dances, beautiful songs with excellent music accompaniment gladdened the hearts of everybody present there.
The Santa Claus arrived and filled the entire crowd with joy and danced with great enthusiasm.
The principal of St Philomena PU College, Fr Vijay Lobo, director of Divya Chetana Association, Fr Rithesh Rodrigues, the vice principal of the College, Professor Vishnu Bhat were also present.
The president of Divya Chetana Association Brian Sequeira welcomed the gathering. The programme was compered by Roshell and Lavita.
