Mangaluru, 16 Dec 2014: The district chief judge M G Uma and Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim paid a visit to district sub-jail here on Tuesday December 16, to review the state of prisoners and basic infrastructure at the prison.
DC Ibrahim visited all the prison cells and listened to their grievances. He advised the prison superintendent to maintain equal number of prisoners in various cells instead of overcrowding in a few cells.
The prisoners expressed their grievances on drinking water at the jail which has been the cause of their ill health. DC Ibrahim advised health officials to take test the samples of water and give him the lab report. He also instructed to test the sample once in a month to maintain the quality.
DC Ibrahim also instructed municipal engineer to repair the water pipes to stop the spillage at the earliest.
He expressed displeasure over discolored water in bathrooms and toilets, as pipes are corroded causing contamination of lead. He also consumed samples of food at the prison kitchen and advised the prison mess-in-charge to display daily menu.
He also advised the prison superintendent to hold vocation training for those prisoners who are interested, as idle prisoners are subjected to mental disturbances.
Both judge Uma and DC Ibrahim also visited the women prisoners’ cell and listened to their grievances. He advised the prison officials to enroll the children of women prisoners in schools.
The judge Uma instructed the prison officials to properly maintain all facilities at the prison. DC Ibrahim advised to better manage basic amenities at the jail.
The district Wenlock Hospital medical superintendent Dr Rajeshwari Devi, PWD executive engineer Dharmaraj, jail superintendent Mahesh Kumar Jigane, municipal officials and department officers were present.
