Mangaluru, 18 Nov 2014: In an outstanding achievement in the field of sports, the StJoseph’s PU College, Bajpe(Mangaluru) team won state level football tournament which was held at Bellary recently.
St Joseph’s PU College, Bajpe (Mangaluru) girls has been winning almost all the tournaments held in the region and have an excellent track record of wins. The never die spirit of these girls supported by Principal of the PU College and Mr. Anthony by their constant guidance and training. The fruit of their hard work finally the finest results that is winning the state level football match in Bellary defeating the famous Coorg by 7-1 goals.
In the first match, Mangalore team beat Haveri by 7-0 goals. Carol scored 3, Prajna 2, Lerissa and Deepthi scored one goal each. In the 2nd match, Mangalore team beat Kolar by 8-0 goals.Carol, Lerissa and Prajna scored 2 goals each, Deepthi and Trinet scored a goal each. In the semi finals, St Josephs beat Dharwad by 8-0goals. Carol and Prajna scored 3 goals each, Lerissa and Divya scored one goal each. All these matches were played in St John’s School grounds, Bellary.
The exiting and electrifying final match was played at the newly inaugurated Astro Turf Stadium. Mangalore girls played the most beautiful game in front of a huge crowd and were appreciated by MLA ANIL LAD, the press and the spectators. They beat Coorg by 7-1 goals. Deepthi scored 3, Prajna 2, Lerissa and Carol scored one goal each. MLA ANIL LAD spoke very high of Mangalore girls’ performance and appreciated the talent of our District.
The press interviewed the players and took many photographs and videos of Mangalore players. Carol, the captain got the best player award and Prajna, Vice Captain secured the best forward award. Carol and Prajna scored highest goals in the tournament. (9 goals each) If the time was not reduced, Mangalore players would have beaten Sachin Tendulkars all records.
The organizers were so impressed by the performance of the players, they have decided to organise National Level Open Football tournament in the new stadium. It was the first girl’s football tournament in Bellary stadium. The playerswill be getting ready for the nationals which will be held in Goa from 28th December to 2nd January. The football team is trained by the Principal Br Hector Pinto and Mr Anthony.
