Muscat/Oman, 08 Nov 2014: The capital city of Sultanate of Oman, one amongst Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) countries witnessed heavy rains here on Saturday November 8, the first day of working- week.
The untimely rains coupled with high velocity gales inundated low-lying areas of Mabailah industrial area and Azaiba/Ghala that are located on the periphery of service road along Muscat – Sohar expressway.
The floods in industrial area and residential complexes reminded of devastating widespread damage caused by Gonu, hailstorm that the Sultanate witnessed in 2007. Since then, the infrastructural developments are put in place across the flood-prone stretch of highways in different Wilayats of Sultanate, to minimize the damage and loss of life as flash floods gushing between the ridges of gorges are common which are harnessed by constructing check dams to minimize the damage and for irrigation of crops.
Sultanate of Oman is a vast country next to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and strategically located on Gulf of Straits, close to international shipping line.
