Udupi, 31 October 2014: The district Rajyothsav Award Committee nominated Veronica Cornelio for the District Rajyothsava Award – 2014, in recognition to her achievements in the field of social service.
This award will be conferred upon her in a felicitation programme to be held at MGM College grounds on Karnataka Rajyothsav November 1 at 9.00am. This event will be presided by various dignitaries and government officials of the district.
Veronica Cornelio who hails from Kemmannu, near here actively involved herself in the field of social service for the past 20 years. She has served as one of the initial lady presidents of Udupi taluk panchayat and has been an elected as taluk panchayat member for the past 2 decades from Uppoor and Padu Thonse electoral areas. She is currently the president of the district Mahila Congress wing.
Veronica Cornelio played a key role in introducing the Manipal Konkani Aroghya Suraksha Card for the Konkani speaking Christian community under the banner of Catholic Sabha. This facility reaches out to thousands of families who benefit from this scheme. She is widely known for simplicity, polite and soft spoken nature.
Responding to this honor, Veronica Cornelio says that she is humbled by this recognition given to her, ‘In the field of social service, one must never expect anything in return for their service. The support from my family and the blessings and good will of the people has kept me afloat. I will continue serving people to the best of my ability,’ said Veribnica.
Veronica Cornelio is also considered as a champion of knowledge with regard to the schemes available from the government, especially for widows, handicapped and the backward classes. Her selfless contribution to the society has widely been acknowledged by various organizations and institutions.
