Mangalore, 20 Oct 2014: Succumbing to the mounting pressure for suspension of Kavoor SI Umesh Kumar who has been facing allegation of manhandling a Bajrang Dal activist, the Police Commissioner on Monday, October 20 suspended the SI.
The suspension came close on the heels of DCP Vishnuvardhan submitting a report in connection to the assault case.
Charan, an activist of Bajrang Dal was reportedly assaulted by the SI for seeking bail from the court and not appearing at station in connection to a particular case. Severely injured Charan was hospitalised and raged by the act of the SI, Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad had organized protest against police sub inspector Umesh Kumar demanding his suspension.
The protesters who had threatened of Kavoor Bandh on Sunday had postponed the same with request from some BJP leaders who had directed the police officials to take action in this regard at the earliest.
With the suspension, the activists who were on stir have called off the protest.
