Udupi/M’belle, 08 Sep 2014: As in previous years, this year also the ICYM Unit of Moodubelle organized Talents Day-2014 on Monday, 8 September 2014 from 3.15 pm. A large number of parishioners attended and also participated in the Talents Day events. Earlier, the ICYM had organized various competitions for the parishioners on two Sundays in which practically all the 23 wards had participated.
The programme started by singing of prayer by ICYM members. The programme was inaugurated in a unique way by the dignitaries on the dais-Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes, Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Roshan D’Souza, Assistant Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Reginald Pinto- Director of Sampada, Udupi Diocese, Rev. Fr. Raj, Pricnipal of St. Lawrence English Medium High School, Alphonse K. Alva and Mrs. Emilia Noronha, Vice President and Secretary respectively of Parish Pastoral Council, Joseph Martis, President of Youth Welfare Committee, Vincent Fernandes and Mrs. Rovita Fernandes, Animators of ICYM, Glenjoy Alva, President of ICYM-Moodubelle Unit and Gurkars of Wards planting one rose each in a stand.
Glenjoy Alva, President of ICYM welcomed the gathering following which Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes blessed the ‘vorn’ (payasam) mixed with new corn which was later distributed to the audience by the ICYM members.
Next, Pritish Burton D’Sa who had cleared CA examination recently in first attempt was felicitated by Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes while Ms. Feline D’Souza read out the achievements of Pritish Burton.
In his message, Pritish Burton D’Sa said that youth from Moodubelle parish should try to appear for competitive examinations. If one has determination and follow hard work, he or she can achieve success.
Prizes to the winners of various competitions were distributed. Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes gave away prizes for the winners in singing competition which was arranged for all the age groups right from 4 years to 74 years.
In his message, Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes congratulated ICYM for their efforts in organizing the Talents Day. He said that every individual has been endowed with many hidden talents by Almighty God and ICYM has tried to bring forth these talents by providing them an opportunity.
Rev. Fr. Roshan D’Souza distributed prizes for the winners in lucky games and Rev. Fr. P. Raj gave away prizes to the Gurkars of the wards whose members had won in various competitions.
Those who had sponsored the Talents day-2014 were honoured by Rev. Fr.Reginald Pinto by offering them roses.
The most awaited cultural programme followed with children from primary presenting their group dance. Different associations and wards and brothers from Assisi Nilaya presented various programmes such as skits, dances and songs, The youngest winner in singing competition-Syreeta Fernandes, aged 4 years and the eldest, Mrs. Eliza Pereira, aged 74 years also presented their winning songs. The associations that presented different cultural programmes included: iCYM, YCS, Altar Servers, Catholic Sabha, Stree Sanghttan and some wards.
Rev. Fr. Joswey Gave away prizes to two wards based on the highest number of members present in the hall at 3.15 pm. This was an innovation of Rev. Fr. Reginald Pinto to promote punctuality. In this category, Sacred Heart I Ward secured first prize and St. Lawrence Ward secured second prize.
The ward championship on the basis of their participation in various competitions and cultural programme was cornered by Sacred Heart I Ward with 139 points and claimed the Rolling Shield and Sacred Heart II Ward was the runners up.
Rev. Fr. Reginald Pinto proposed the vote of thanks and Lloyd Rebello anchored the programme.
