Bantwal, Aug 15, 2014: The policemen of Bantwal rural station arrested 2 more accused in murder case of auto rickshaw driver Mohammed Refai, a native of Sujeer Badigudde, near Maripalla, here on Wednesday August 13.
Earlier, the police arrested Dhanaraj, Asif and Balegone Siraj on Tuesday August 12, related to the same case. They were presented before the court on Wednesday August 13, and were held under judicial custody.
Meanwhile, the police intensively interrogating other accused Ganesh, a native of Beltangady and Shabbir of Puttur who were arrested on Wednesday August 13.
Backdrop of case
A few youth engaged Mohammed Refai’s auto rickshaw from Farangipet park, here a few days ago. When the auto rickshaw deserted location at Netrakere, the youth tried to kill Mohammed Refai, sensing threat to life, Refai fled abandoning auto rickshaw. There were other youth waiting in 2 motor cycles, who chased Refai and brutally killed him near a stream at Kodman, here. Refai’s dead body was found besides the stream the next day.
The police team led by circle inspector Belliyappa and sub-inspector Nagaraj suspected it was vengeance for killing Noushad on June 21 2013. They traced Noushad’s brother Siraj at Uppala, Kasargod district of Kerala. When the police interrogated Siraj, he confessed the names of all those involved in the heinous crime of killing Refai. More arrests are likely to follow and investigations are under way.
The operation was carried out at the instruction of SP Dr Sharanappa and Bantwal sub-division DySP Rashmi Paraddi, by circle inspector Belliyappa, Bantwal rural sub-inspector Nagaraj and police personnel.
