Mangalore, Jul 26, 2014 : The brave men of Indian armed forces sacrificed their precious lives to save our nation by crushing Pakistan armed forces that boasts of its prowess as second to none in Asia who intruded into Indian soil in the guise of their home grown terrorists. It was July 26 that the nation observes Kargil Diwas, to pay homage to the brave men who laid down their lives to protect motherland.  Meanwhile, the rulers of great Indian nation have no time to commemorate these brave men!  It’s indeed tragic!

Yes, it was the fourth direct conflict with Pak. ‘The intruders into Kargil of our border state Jammu and Kashmir are not our soldiers,’ renounced Pak administration, and quietly let its armed forces into Indian border in the disguise of extremists.

The former PM Attal Behari Vajpayee has visited Pak in the historical Lahore bus ride during February 1999, invited Pak PM Nawaz Sharif to pay a visit to India and also signed Lahore Peace Treaty.  Both Pak and India agreed to unilaterally solve the Kashmir issue with peaceful means.

However, no sooner PM Vajpayee returned to India, Pak stabbed India on its back, by letting Pak armed men into line of actual control (LoC).  The Indian armed forces initially presumed that it was incursion of terrorists.  However, when it was clear that it was the intrusion by Pak armed forces, India declared full scale war to protect its motherland.  It was the ill conceived plan by none other than Pak chief of armed forces General Parvez Musharaf, who masterminded the intrusion since he took reign of Pak army during October 1998.  He planned ‘Operation Badr’, with the clear purpose of separating Ladak from Kashmir valley and capture Siachin glacier.

The entire Kashmir region was facing the extreme winter, minus 48 degree and sometimes sub zero.  As per Shimla Treaty of 1971, the armed forces of both countries had to return to their respective border along LoC on humanitarian grounds.  Pak exploited the situation to let the intruders and armed men into Kargil mountainous range, well 160 kilometers into India’s side of LoC.  When Indian armed forces chief reported the union government that Pak armed men with sophisticated weapons including rocket launchers and surface to air missiles already intruded deep into Indian territories, NDA led union government by the former PM Vajpayee, announced full scale war on Pak, titled ‘Operation Vijay’ and ordered the Indian armed forces to capture every single inch of motherland from Pak army.

On June 7 1999, Vajpayee made the historical speech, ‘I have my entire trust in our armed forces.  Our armed men will be successful in the operation, and dissuade none to go for such misadventure.’  The Indian armed men inspired by Vajpayee’s speech, continued their brutal assault on Pak forces, while Pak rulers plead US former president Bill Clinton to broker the deal to ask India to halt the deadly offensive.

India’s armed forces comprised 20,000 soldiers, 10,000 air men; para-military forces engaged the Pak armed forces in brutal offensive at below 15 degree Celsius and on a terrain of 16,000 feet high form sea level.  Indian air force provided air cover to armed men under ‘Operation Safed Sagar’ thereby caused havoc on Pak armed men who were forced to their knees.   It’s significant that Indian armed forces confronted the Pak forces in Indian soil, never ever crossed LoC because of high regard for International Treaty that has helped India to get upper hand in bureaucratic struggle on Pak.  Pak forces on the verge of surrendering, when Pak PM Nawaj Sharif rushed to Washington on July 4 1999, plead US president Bill Clinton to ask India to stop its offensive.

Bill Clinton admonished Sharif to recall the Pak armed forces from Indian soil.  Sharif was helpless.  By then, Indian armed forces already recaptured 80 percent of homeland and captured the last post of Kargil on July 26 that India commemorates as Kargil Vijay Diwas.  The armed conflict left 527 Indian brave men dead and let us commemorates the martyrs who sacrificed their lives to protect homeland.

The advertisements in print and e-media, visual media are posted of Indian national leaders’ birthdays or death anniversaries.  Each ministry remembers the contributions of former PMs.  However, it’s an irony that we have no time to remember our brave armed men who sacrificed their precious lives in protecting our homeland.   We all are waging struggle against corrupt.  Let us salute our brave men who are guarding our borders in tough terrains.  Let us become like brave soldiers in our struggle against corruption ridden India.
