Puttur: St Philomena PU College PTA Inaugurated; 1st Meeting Held

Puttur, 24 Jul 2014: The general body meeting of parents - teachers association (PTA) of St Philomena Pre-University College for the new academic year was held at their silver jubilee memorial hall, here on Saturday July 19.

 

The city-based Scope Counseling Centre counselor Gangadhar Bellare, Counsellor was the resource person, spoke on the academic responsibilities of parents in students’ life. By citing different examples, he brought out clearly that the behaviour the parents must possess and the language they speak at home in front of their children immensely influences, in turn, the behaviour and character of their children. He stressed that parents become ‘Metamodels’ to their children.

 

St Philomena education institutions correspondent Fr Alfred J Pinto inaugurated the PTA on the occasion.

 

FR Alfred in his presidential address said that it is the parents’ duty, to teach their children, good culture. He also called upon the parents to contribute towards the forming cultured society.

 

 

The campus director Fr Antony Prakash Monteiro was the guest of honor, said that home is the first school for a child. He urged the parents that extreme care must be taken to keep their children away from distractions like mobile phone etc.

 

Vincent Menezes was re-elected unanimously as president of PTA.  Speaking on the occasion, Vincent said, ‘In this competitive world, we must prepare our children to face challenges of life. We must teach children not only to score marks in the examination but also to improve upon their language, how to face interviews etc.’

 

Hastha R Aithal, the topper in Puttur Taluk and third rank holder in Karnataka in the recently held II PUC (Science) exams, were felicitated along with Varsha V Kamath, Niya Anna James, Archana N R, Bhagyashree Herle, Fiona Crystal Mascarenhas and Ramyashree during the programme.

 

St Philomena Pre-University College principal Fr Vijay Lobo briefed about the activities and also his action plan for the year.

 

Prashanth Bhat P, department of chemistry, secretary of PTA welcomed the gathering. The treasurer of PTA, Anil Kumar, department of computer science, proposed vote of thanks. Sahana and other students rendered the prayer song. Ashwini K, department of chemistry, introduced the resource person. Usha Yashwanth, department of kannada compered the programme.
