Mangalore, 23 Jul 2014: The countless of students from different colleges across the city led by ABVP staged a stir in front of the office of Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Tuesday July 22, seeking justice for the recent rape case of a minor student in Bangalore and also all such incidents in Karnataka.

The students’ union leaders of different colleges condemned the delay in taking a stern action and urged the government to act at the earliest.

Addressing the protesters, University College leader Ashwini said, ‘We are protesting not only against the minors’ rape in Bangalore, but also against many rapes that have taken place recently. When the children of a politician go to pub or mall, they will be escorted by security men, while the common man especially girls feel unsafe in public places.  The government should punish the rapists so that these incidents are not repeated. The government is testing the patience of the student community and we will not sit quiet, if the trend continues in the society.’

‘People have come into power saying acche din anewale hein. I question what kind of good days we have to face,’ queried Ashwini.

Another student leader Shyam Bhat said, ‘We will not tolerate such acts anymore. We will not hesitate even to picket at the residences of ministers. The women and child welfare minster is not acting when there is a need. The government must make justice to all the rape cases.’

The students later targeted Siddaramaiah and his colleagues in their speeches.

Another student Shiv Kumar said, ‘When the whole world was sleeping Buddha was the only man to be awake, but now when the whole world is awake CM Siddaramaiah is found dozing in assembly. Where are the women organizations when so many atrocities on women are reported? Are they not alive?’

‘The ministers and the officers are ruling us using the tax that we pay. Since we have given them the power, we deserve protection. If you do not form the enact strict laws then it is good to sit in your homes and wash the vessels,’ said Shiv Kumar.

It was really astonishing to see the mammoth strength of students coming down to the streets in support of rape victims.

ABVP state secretary Ramesh Kumar, office bearers Manisha and Manohar and others were present on the occasion.
