Bantwal: Incessant rains cause landslides, damage houses & plantations in taluk

Bantwal, 15 Jul 2014: The incessant rains that have been lashing across Bantwal taluk since Saturday July 12 night, caused landslides.
The landslides and uprooting of trees at S V S English Medium School here obstructed the traffic on Bantwal – Dharmasthala national highway. Meanwhile, the civic workers cleared the tree for smoother traffic with the help of locals.
The boulders pose threat to farmlands and houses besides damaged the plantations. A barrier wall in Bondala near Panemangalore collapsed. A house of certain Latif damaged due to mudslide at Goodinabali here. The landslide also damaged a house in Karvelu at the limits of Biliyoor near here. The landslide blocked a major stream at Porsupal that comes under the limits of Shamboor near here, resulted in flooding the farmlands in the neighbourhood. The farmlands of Marcel Pinto, Sanjeev Poojary, Suresh Poojary, Vishwanat Poojary and Muttamma were inundated damaging the crop.
The taluk panchayat member Anand Shamboor along with revenue officers visited the locations and made a detailed estimate of crop losses.
The water level in Netravati River touched 6.2 meters on Sunday July 13 morning which was 5.7 meter on Saturday July 12 evening. As a result, the low-lying areas are inundated. The danger level on Netravati River stands at 8.5 meters.
The revenue department has geared up precautionary measures to face any adversity caused by rising water level in Netravati River.
