Mangalore: Future lies in Population Control Asha Timmappa

Mangalore, 11 Jul 2014: ‘The fruits of all our developmental projects are eaten away by population explosion. We got to make a choice of small families for our progress. The population control is the key for national growth, urged Dakshina Kannada ZP president Asha Timmappa.
Asha was speaking after inaugurating World Population Day programme held at Mangalore University, Mangala Gangotri men’s hostel auditorium, here on Friday July 11 morning. It was jointly organized by DK district administration, ZP, health and family welfare department, Mangalroe University NSS programme.
Its due to the high literacy level in DK district, 50 percent of families follow 1-child policy. Further, 35 percent of families follow 2-child policy. Meanwhile, when compared to other districts, DK district recorded hike of 9.8 percent increase in population in the past 10 years, said Asha. The birth rate is 11 percent and death rate is 3.8 percent, added Asha.
ZP vice president Satish Kumpala in his presidential address said that the scientific advances and higher literacy rate given rise to nuclear families shunning undivided families thereby jeopardizing peace and harmony. If the population goes unchecked, someday there would not be any land left to grow crops, said Satish.
The district RCH officer Dr Rukmini in her introductory address said that the global population is 7 billionm, out of which India has the population of 107 crore, out of which Karnataka has 6.4 crore. The future lies in creating awareness on population control.
