St Philomena College principal Professor Leo Norohna presided the function.

Women Empowerment Cell convenor Professor Venkateshwari, the co-convenors English lecturer Suma, commerce lecturer Harshitha and Radhika were also present.

Professor Leo Norohna while addressing the gathering said, ‘Men and women are born equal, they are complementary to each other. For the progress of the society the contribution of both men and women is equally important,’ said Professor Leo.

Stressing on the importance of the women in the society, Professor Leo quoted Jawaharlal Nehru, ‘In order to wake the people women should be awake. When a woman moves along with her the family and the nation also moves.’ This speaks volumes about the importance of the women. They make a large difference in the society as a daughter, sister, wife and a mother, said Professor Leo.

Boosting the confidence of the ladies present there, Professor Leo further said, ‘Women should never be considered weak as they have proved themselves in every walk of life.’

It is biologically proved that the women are stronger.  In the case of the child with lower birth weight the survival rate in the female child is more compared to the male child.’

‘As the women are stronger and they can do multitasking the nature has more faith in them and has given the responsibility of the motherhood,’ added Dr Sulekha.
