Udupi: United struggle essential for sustenance of Tulu; Swami Gurudevanand

Udupi, 24 Apr 2014: Tulu is our mother tongue. The sustenance of Tulunadu culture lies in preserving Tulu. It’s tragic that one has to wage struggle for the sustenance of Tulu in the land of Tulunadu. Tulu should be spoken at homes to sustain, along with prokmoting Tulu literature, music and theater. Tulu can be sustained for posterity only by united struggle, said Swami Gurudevanand of Odiyoor mutt.
Swami Gurudevanand was speaking after releasing ‘Tembeda Bakyar,’ CD of Tulu songs composed by Tulu poet, theater artiste Dayanand K Shetty Dendoor, during a function held at Ammanni Ramanna Shetty auditorium, here on Monday April 21. It was jointly organized by Tulukoota Udupi ®, Ganeshotsav Samiti Dendoor - Kalmanja, Yuva Vrunda Dendoor – Alevoor, DXN Associates Udupi.
Karnataka state Kannada Sahitya Parishat former president Harikrishna Punaroor inaugurated the programme by throwing Tembe (local) fruit.
Speaking on the occasion, Harikrishna said that as per the stone inscriptions of bygone era, Tulunadu flourished in the regions beginning from Kerala to Maharashtra, which has shrunk today. The mega industries are destroying the ruins of Tulunadu’s glorious past. The treasure trove of ancient Tulu palm scripts are limited to display during Sharada puja, said Harikrishna.
Tulusiri Pratistan chairman Dr Y N Shetty, Tulu folklore scholar Bannanje Babu Amin, movie director Vijay Kumar Kodialbail, theater artiste Leeladar Shetty Kaup, Dendoor Sakarama Shetty, Kaup former MLA Lalaji R Mendon, were the chief guests present on the occasion.
Tulukoota Udupi president Indrali Jayakar Shetty presided the programme.
Dayanand K Shetty welcomed the gathering. Chandrashekar Salian compered the programme. Ashok Serigar proposed vote of thanks.
