Mangalore, 12 April 2014 : Bishop Dr Aloysius P D’Souza consecrated the renovated St Anthony’s Chapel at Jeppu, here during the Eucharistic Celebration on Friday April 11. The chapel serves the spiritual needs of inmates residing at St Anthony’s Charity Institutes.
St Anthony’s Charity Institutes were started by Monsignor M P Colaco in 1898 at Milagres. Later as the institutes were growing and space available was limited, the late Fr Charles Lobo, the then director shifted the institutes to Jeppu. But the novena to Saint Anthony continued and continues to be held on Tuesdays at Saint Anthony Shrine at Milagres parish. Every Tuesday Masses and novenas are held at 8.15am and 6.00pm.
At present, St Anthony’s Charity Institutes takes care of 400 destitutes. All their needs are taken care of by the Institutes free of cost from the generous support given by the devotees of St Anthony and good willing people. In return, the residents pray thrice a day (6.00am, 12.00pm and 6.00pm) for the intentions of donors, well wishers and specially for those who request for prayers. The renovated chapel now provides a prayerful atmosphere for the residents as well as to the devotees who visit the ashram to pray.
Mangalore diocesan vicar general Monsignor Denis Moras Prabhu, St Anthony’s Charity Institutes director Fr Onil D’Souza, administrator Fr Francis D’Souza, governing council members, devotees of Saint Anthony and the residents were present on the occasion.
Please pray for me for peace of mind, good health and family problems and work place problems.
