Manipal, 20 March 2013: After Vikas Khanna, yet another Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration (WGSHA) alumnus, Maneet Chauhan, is making news in the world of food. “Celebrity chef Maneet Chauhan is the latest high profile Indian American foodie to watch,” according to INDIAWEST.com of March 18, 2013.

“Chauhan starts her fourth season April 7, 2013 as a celebrity judge on the Food Network show “Chopped All-Stars,” where she will join such top names as Marcus Samuelsson and Chris Santos in judging a high-pressure competition between celebrities as they try to whip up memorable gourmet meals against the clock using ingredients from the Chopped “mystery basket.”

Maneet Chauhan (c), a celebrity judge on the new season of “Chopped All-Stars,” is seen with chefs Geoffrey Zakarian (l) and Chris Santos on the show

Chauhan is the only Indian female ever to compete on “Iron Chef America,” and was a fierce competitor on “The Next Iron Chef.”

The Ludhiana-born Chauhan graduated at the top of her class at the WelcomGroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration in Manipal, India’s top culinary and hotel management school. After interning for high-end chains including the Taj Group, Oberoi Hotels and Le Meridian, she decided to strike out for the U.S., where she enrolled in the Culinary Institute of America and graduated with high honors, sweeping all the awards in her graduating class.

She has most famously served as executive chef of Vermilion, an award-winning contemporary Indian and Latin American fusion restaurant with branches in Chicago and New York that specializes in “Indian-Latin tapas,”  such as Duck Vindaloo Arepas (corn cakes), Mysore lamb chops and artichoke pakoras with eggplant-chili-coconut sauce, and Blue Corn Crusted Scallops with kali mirch, latin calabasa squash and goat cheese.

Vermilion continues to rake in accolades in its two locations in Chicago and New York City, though Chauhan now works full time as a judge for Food Network’s “Chopped.”

“Chef Maneet,” as she’s known by her Food Network colleagues, is currently in the process of opening a restaurant in Nashville, Tenn. (in collaboration with the prestigious M Street Restaurant Group), and is at work on two new cookbooks. She currently resides in New York City with her husband and her daughter.
