Moodubelle: K. Jayaprakash Hegde Inaugurates NSS Camp of St. Lawrence PU College

Moodubelle, 19 Oct 2012: K. Jayaprakash Hegde, MP from Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha Constituency inaugurated the annual NSS Camp of St. Lawrence PU College, Moodubelle at Shri Mahabhaleshwara Hindu Higher Primary School, Edmeru on Friday, October 19, 2012 at 4 pm.

 

The inaugural function was presided over by Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes, Correspondent of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions.  Besides K. Jayaprakash Hegde, he guests of honour included  Fr. Paul Sequeira, Principal of St. Lawrence PU College, S.S. Sindha-Deputy Director of PU Education Department, Devdas Hebbar, Former President of Udupi Taluk Panchayat, Mrs. Ida Gibba D’Souza, Udupi Zilla Panchayat Member, Mohandas Shetty, president of the Administrative Committee of Shri Mahabhaleshwar Higher Primary School, Secretary-Sitaram Shetty and Headmaster-Vivekananda Shetty, Shivram Salian and Ram Bhat, Belle Grama POanchayat members and Alphonse K. Alva, Vice President of Parish Pastoral Council. Other guests included Commodore Jerome Castelino-Dean of St. Lawrence College, Principal-Dr. Eugene D’Souza, Sylvester Mathias-Headmaster of Church Aided Higher Primary School, Mrs. Helen D’Souza and Sr. Irene-Superior of Loreto Convent.

 

The inaugural function began with prayer song by NSS volunteers. Fr. Paul Sequeira  welcomed  the guests, Edward Larsen D’Souza, NSS Programme Officer traced the origin and growth of the NSS Movement following which K. Jayaprakash Hegde and the dignitaries on the dais lighted the lamp thus formally inaugurating the Annual NSS Camp.

 

 

In his address to the NSS campers, K. Jayaprakash  Hegde, first of all apologized for being late for the programme and said that  usually leaders expect the followers to do as they say and not to follow what they do. However, he said that there should be coordination in what one says and does. Further he said  that NSS camp gives the students an opportunity to develop their personality. Mere education for the sake of education is not enough. Every individual should develop good personality in order to achieve success in life.  He also appealed the student to develop  value system, create the habit of reading and gaining knowledge and create an atmosphere of national integration as our country is a country with diversity and there is unity in diversity.

 

Mrs. Ida Gibba D’Souza and Devdas Hebbar also spoke on this occasion and wished well to the NSS camp.

 

In his presidential message, Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes urged the students to promote among themselves leadership qualities. They should be aware of the community in which they live and understand the problems facing the society.  He wished success to the camp.

 

Joseph D’Souza, Physical Director of the PU College proposed the vote of thanks. Mrs. Jacintha Lobo, lecturer of Commerce in PU College compeered the programme.
