Dubai 28 Sep 2012: In a splendid performance of singing completion held at Gems Private School Hall here on Friday Udupi’s Sabitha Mathias and Ujere’s Jeevan Edward Vaz reached the finals of Gulf Voice of Mangalore Semi-Finals.

In this prestigious singing contest 12 contestants participated in the most awaiting competition.  In the completetion 6 female singers and 6 male singers participated.  The six female contestants were Laila D’Souza, Crecilla Rordrigues, Sabitha Mathias, Nisha Lobo, Asha Fernandes and  Thelma D’Souza.  In the males category, Alwyn Mendoca, Prashant Sequeira, Robin D’Souza, Anil Mascarenhas, Preeth Noronha and Jeevan Edward Vaz.

The event began with a warm welcome by a veteran Konkani artist Alwyn Pinto.  He highlighted a few achievements by Mangalore Konkans in the field of Charitable and Educations deeds.  Also said that the Mangalore Konkans took imitative to conduct Gulf Voice of Mangalore to uplift the talents of up-coming singers and exhibit their talents.

All the semi-finalist singers were ceremoniously taken to the dais  and were accorded a warm welcome by audience.  The signers invoked God’s blessing by singing a prayer hymn followed by inauguration by the main sponsor Raju Francis Fernandes (SPPE-Dubai).

The emcee of the day a famous personality in Dubai who conducts regular Konkani programs in Dubai entered the stage with lovely poetic song praising the singers and also gave a brief intro of all the singers.  He did a marvelous job by conducting the entire event in a clinical finish i.e by starting the event exactly at 6pm and ended at 10:30pm.  His emcee was filled with rib-tickling comedy jokes and inspiration to the singers not loose heart.  He too exhibited his talents as an MC and applauded by audience for your super performance on the stage.

He introduced the judges of the contest especially flown from India and Kuwait, the well known singers namely:  Dr. Prashant Raj, Ronie D’Cunha, and Nephie Rod.  The president of Mangalore Konkans James Mendonsa felicitated with floral bouquets.
The moment came next where the audience waited eagerly for the singing competition by the semi-finalist.  There were two rounds for the competition i. e Classical Round and Fast numbers.

All the singers sang beautifully in the melodius golden voices in both rounds and received a huge round of applause at the end of the each song.  Judges evaluated the singers and their performance  at the end of the songs of the classical round.  The fast numbers were a total entertainment and the audience enjoyed the fast numbers thoroughly.

A brief stage program was held wherein the main sponsors, singers, musicians, sound system, media and Rev. Fr. Fredrick Monteiro (a visiting Parish Priest of Nainad) were invited and felicitated with floral bouquets.

The judges namely Nephie, Dr. Prashant and Rony D’Cunha rendered a few old Konkani numbers and entertained the crowd.  On behalf of judges Rony D’Cunha spoke and inspired the singers and said that not to loose the heart even if you loose today but look ahead and there is big scope ahead for them.

The MC was back stage to announce the final results.  He requested the President James Mendonsa to open the final names.  But prior to declaring the names Roshan gave a piece of advise to all the singers that the road ahead is bright for all singers though only two can make it to the finals today.

Dear Mangalore Konkan, It was a wonderful evening with melodious voices especially from female singers and rocking from male singers. However myself as musician, I have noted some minor short come with the singers. Female singer 1 4 vocal ability was low and unable to pickup by mic. May be the reason, music was little more than the vocal delivery. However performance wise no comments Singer 2 high pitch was not attained. Found difficult to sustain. Singer 3 may be suitable for choir singing not suitable for stage show/competitions. There was no any stage performance. Stand still and sing will not win the hearts of audience. Singer 5 first round was super in all respect but second round song look little fast may be due to high tempo. Even though the tempo was high, the singer with almost care, without any technical glitch (Synchronize with music) sung it and made me to think why she lost the competition. Singer 6 Not at all to the standard as commented by judges. Male singer, singer 1 extraordinary efforts to win, but for singing competitions it will not work out. Judges commented rightly. Invite risk. Singer 2 to 4 really rocked the stages except singer 6 In my opinion as overall performance, (Dressing code, presentation, sweetness of voice quality, range of voice, synchronization with music rapport with audience ete) female singer 5 and male singer 2 deserves the winning title. 2nd session No words to say. Super and super. Totally, the Entire program was a super hit in the 2012 history and I too agree with Mr.Stan.R.D souza for his comments for good sound balancing throughout the progress by Mr.Prasad, super music by MR. Ramiro team, Good command of the stage by Mr.Roshan and Punctuality in time keeping by Mangalore konkan was the added feather to this evening. Hats off Mangalore Konkan. Looking forward for new programs
