Moodubelle: First time Keasara Gaddhe Sports draws enthusiastic crowds

Moodubelle, 16 Sep 2012: For the first time, the Kesara Gaddhe sports organized  as part of the Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava celebrations of Moodubelle-Kattingeri Villages drew enthusiastic crowds  at Edmeru on Sunday, September 2012 from 2 pm till 6 pm. The rural sports-meet also manifested the healthy communal mix up of two predominant communities in these two villages. The Kesara Gaddhe Sports were organized in the field of  Jerome D’Souza. Henry Alva was seen coordinating the sports and giving running commentary.

 

The KesaraGaddhe Sports comprising of Volley Ball, Throw Ball and Tug of War along with running and treasure hunt was inaugurated by Vasanth Poojary and Devdas Hebbar, President and Secretary of the Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava respectively, Vikas Shetty, member of the Belle Grama Panchayat and Commodore Jerome Castelino by lighting the lamp in the presence of a large number of enthusiastic villagers and sports persons.  Lions Club, Moodubelle  members were also present  to witness the sports.

 

 

There was overwhelming response to the Volley Ball Tournament as 12 different teams competed with each other to win the title.  Prior to the match, treasure hunt was organized in which anyone could enter the Kesara Gaddhe  beyond the Volley Ball Court and search for hidden treasure.

 

Devdas Hebbar and Vasanth Poojary initiated the Volley ball Tournament by entering the Kesara Gaddhe and hitting the ball over the net few times.

 

Other games followed which created a lot of excitement among the players and viewers who cheered their teams. Women’s Throw Ball was followed by Tug of War for Men and Women which created  a lot of interest and excitement among the participants and spectators. Even  Mrs. Ida Gibba D’Souza, member of Udupi Zilla Panchayat  participated in the Throw Ball game.

 

 

All the games of the Kesara Gaddhe were played under the supervision of  Immanuel Cornelio, former PT Teacher of St. Lawrence High School, Bharat Shetty, present PT Teacher of St. Lawrence English Medium High School, Moodubelle, Subraya Nayak, PT Teacher from Alevoor School and Denis Martis.

 

At the end of the Kesara Gaddhe Sports, Devdas Hebbar, Secretary of the Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava expressed gratitude to all the participants in the sports and the spectators.

 

The following are the winners of various sports events:

1.  Volley Ball:

Boys: Christen and Group Moodubelle (I), Nisarga Yuvaka Mandala, Kattingeri (II)
Adults: Lloyd and Group, Moodubelle (I), Yuva Spoorthi, Padubelle (II)

2.   Throw Ball: Yuva Spoorthi, padubelle (I), Ida Gibba D’Souza and Group (II)

3.   Tug of War: Men: Melpete Friends, Moodubelle (I), Nisarga Yuvaka Mandala (II)

          Women: Yuva Spoorthi A, Padubelle (I), Yuva Spoorthi,B, Padubelle (II)
          Children: Nagaraj and Group, Moodubelle (I), Kevin and Group, Moodubelle (II)

4.   Running: Boys Less than 10 Years: Flavin (I), Atish(II); 10-20 Years: Harish (I), Nitin (II); Above 20 Years: Kiran (I), Abhishek (II)
 Girls 10-20 Years: Nivedita, Yuva Spoorthi (I),  Raksha, Edmer(II), Women Above 20 Years: Pramila, Yuva Spoorthi (I), Bhavya, Yuva Spoorthi (II)

5. Three Legged Race: 10-20 Years Boys: Pradip and Kiran, Edmer (I), Sumanth and Gladston, Moodubelle (II)
Boys Above 20 Years: Suraj and Harish, Yuva Spoorthi (I)Srinivas and Mani, Yuva Spoorthi (II)
Girls 10-20 Years: Nivedita and Deepasshree (I), Sushmitha ans Ramya (II)
Women: Pratima and Sucheta, Yuva Spoorthi(I), Rakshitha and Rashmi, Nisarga Yuvaka Mandala (II)

I particularly liked the tug of war photos depicting the clean fun and positive energy experienced by participants. Rolling in muddy slush is a therapeutic. keep it going a few times in a year.

HEMPHIL, you do write good at times! I really appreciate this one! When everyone is enjoying, why we need to think about the road of approach? Yes, we need to address it but in a different platform!! I must agree this kind of pure fun need to be spared/excluded from any kind of criticism!

"Kai kesaradare bayi mosaru" - thus goes the saying. By introducing this new generation to this kind of sports they may be an initiation to "dirty their hands" and produce what we need to eat daily. "Sports uniforms" we were used to wear during these kind of games like "kambala" etc. some fofty years back are not the ones I see in these pictures! Anyway, "kalok thaka kola kattod" thule. Keep it up!

Interesting games held at Kesaragadhe sports event. Looking the participants, looks like every one enjoyed the games thoroughly. Good initiative by Belle people and should continue every year but a little earlier when it actually rains. Beautiful pics and report by Dr. Eugine and Anil.
