Mangalore: Teachers Day celebrated at Catholic Board of Education (CBE)

Mangalore, 03 September 2012: The Catholic Board of Education (CBE) celebrated Teachers’ Day on Monday, September 3, 2012 from 10 am to 1 pm. Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis, Rector of St. Joseph’s Seminary presided over the function. Mr. Prabhakar Nirmarga, Deputy Registrar of Mangalore University was the chief guest. Rev. Fr. Wilson V. D’Souza, Secetary of the CBE was on the dais along with Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis and Mr. Prabhakar Nirmarga.


 The programme began with prayer song presented by the students of St. joseph’s English Medium High School, Kulshekar. Welcome dance was presented by the students of St. Joseph’s Higher Primary School, Nantoor, Padau Calvary.
Following the welcome address by Rev. Fr. Wilson V. D’Souza, Fr. Alwyn Serrao, Priuncipal of Rosario Degree College introduced the Chief Guest Mr. Prabhakar Nirmarga and highlighted his achievements as an administrator and a writer of novels and plays depicting the culture and traditions of the Tulunadu.

 


 Aloysius  D’Souza, Headmaster of Rosario High School read out the names of the teachers, non-teaching staff and students who have passed away during the last year and the audience stood in silence for a minute in memory of the departed members of the CBE family.


 The meritorious students who excelled in the last public examinations  in SSLC, PUC and Degree courses as well as rank holders  were honoured by  Mr. Prabhakar Nirmarga as Dr. Clarence Miranda, principal of St. mary’s College, Shirva read out their names. Nagaraj who stood first in St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School, Moodubelle figured in this list of meritorious students.


 Those educational  institutions which secured cent per cent result in various public examinations held  in last March/April were also felicitated by Mr. Prabhakar Nirmarga. Dr. Robert Jose, principal of the Scred Heart College, Madanthyar  read out the list of the institutions. St. Lawrence English Medium School, Moodubelle figured  in this list and Fr. Lancy Saldanha, Principal of the school received the honour. St. Mary’s ITI, Udupi  was awarded  as the best ITI  under Director General of Employment and Training (DGET). Mr. Gilbert Braganza, Principal of St. Mary’s ITI received the honour.


 In his message, Mr. Prabhakar Nirmarga said that the teaching profession is a holy vocation. Everyone does not get this opportunity. Those who take up teaching as a service are called for this vocation.  In his speech, Mr. Prabhakar highlighted the responsibilities of a teacher in the changing world with advance of technology  and changes in aspiration both among the students and their parents. He highlighted the need to imbibe value system among the students with a view of making them good human beings and responsible citizens.


 Rev. fr. Wilson V. D’Souza honoured those  sports students who had achieved medals in international and national level sports and games.  Miss Mortel Lewis, Headmistress of St. Mary’s English Medium High School, Udupi who received Udupi District Best Teachers Award was honoured by Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis.


 Teachers and members of the non-teaching staff  who will be retiring during this year from higher primary schools, high schools, PU colleges and  Degree colleges were honoured by Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis.  Peter Raphael Aranha, Headmaster of the Church Aided Higher Primary School, Moodubelle  was one of the teachers thus honoured who will be retiring on 31October 2012.


 Thre retiring teachers-Mrs. Vanaja from Merinol Higher Primary Scvhool, Barkoor, Sr. Leena Pereira, Headmistress of Loretoo Higher Primary School, Bantwala and Mr. Alphonse D’Costa, Headmaster of St. Mary’s High School, Udupi  narrated their experiences as teachers.


 In his presidential  message, Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis praised the role of a teacher  through a Hindi poem.
 Rev. Fr. Wilson V. D’Souza  presented mementos to the guests. Mr. L.J. Fernandes, Headmaster of St. Mary’s High School, Kundapur proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was compeered by Mrs. Savitri K. from Pompei High School, Urwa.
