Mangalore, 12 Aug 2012: Polytechnic students under the aegis of All College Students Union (ACSU) took out a ‘semi-nude’ protest rally against the change in carry over system in Polytechnic courses in Mangalore on Saturday.

The protesters demanded the government to increase carry over subjects limit from eight to 14.

A procession was taken out from Jyothi Circle to DC’s office by the ACSU members, demanding government to resolve the issue.

Currently, as per the regulations, a student cannot appear for next year exams, if he fails in eight subjects in the previous years. ACSU Legal Advisor Dinakar Shetty, who addressed the protesters, said that the government is not taking any action to solve the problem. “This is the third protest students are carrying out against the wrong carry over policy of the government and Polytechnic Board.

If the government is not ready to take any action, they should face the consequences,” he said.

Lashing out at Higher Education Minister C T Ravi, he said that it seems the minister is not aware of carry over system. He alleged that despite giving representations, the minister is not interested to take any action in favour of the students.

‘May turn to naxals’

Dinakar Shetty said that a number of students have committed suicide and many attempt to suicide due to this wrong policy.

If the government is not ready to find out a solution to this problem, students may turn to criminals or naxals, he said. If such things happen, government will be answerable, he warned.

ACSU State General Secretary Shipal Raj, District President Uttam Alva, District Secretary Sachin Moray, Varun participated in the protest.

These youngsters are children of queen Elizabeth and not of Rani Abbakka Devi. If they were children of Rani Abbakka Devi, they would have come wearing "langoti" or "dhothi" instead of pants. Thrash them mercilessly. Your god fathers are there to save you.

HA HA HA, I am sure HJV are not aware of this protest or else they would have resort to moral policing... yeah, it is one way of protesting and highlighting the grievances to the concerned departments/authorities. all the best.
