The replica of London 2012 Medals were on display in the secured area of British National Museum which I visited in Nov 2011. The accompanying description stated that Royal Mint designed, sourced metals and manufactured them to be one of the larges and expensive medals ever awarded, each personally engraved by RM specialist engraver Marie Buckley. Each gold medal weighs 400gm, of which 370gm is silver, 6gm gold and balance copper. At current prices, it is worth 40,000 rupees. Each of our 81 athletes and 51 officials can afford to buy a gold medal, if only it was on sale. I hope they will not return with only commemorative royal Mint has released..
