Udupi, 21 July 2012: A Leopard had fallen into a well in Kukku Palke, Manipura Grama near Moodubelle on Friday night and the timely action by the villagers had rescued it. The leopard had fallen into the well of Louise Noronha. On Friday night at around 11.00 pm the dog barked loudly. The residents of the house came out and checked, but could not find anything. On Saturday morning when Noronha woke up, he heard noise from the well, when he saw; the leopard had fallen into the well.

Since it is rainy season in the 50 feet deep well about 40 feet depth was filled with water. Catching the pipe of water pump the leopard had managed to survive. It was struggling to catch the pipe because of its long finger nails it could not hold on to the pipe and was very tired. It also had injury to its face which was bleeding.

The forest department was informed, but for a long time nobody from the department came and neither they showed any reaction. At last the people of the house with the help of neighbours descended a wooden ladder into the well. As if it was just waiting for it, the leopard climbed that ladder quickly and immediately upon coming up, it ran into the nearby jungle. Bellevision learned that even until this evening no one from the forest department has turned up to the spot.

It is unbelievable that the forest department did not show up even after the leopard came out of the well with the help of a ladder and escaped in the jungle.

Thanks a ton to the villagers for the step they took. Had they been waiting for the forest dept., the leopard could have died. Screw you forest officials.
