Udupi, 03 July 2012: A delegation from the Jilla Panchayth will be going to Bangalore to request the Chief Minister to raise their monthly allowance to a respectable amount to keep their dignity. In the monthly meeting of the Jilla Panchayath this decision was taken.

Initiating this proposal on behalf of all the members of Jilla Panchayath, opposition Congress party member Manjunatha Poojary said that the market prices have raised and it becomes expensive for the members to come and go to the Jilla Panchayath, so the present allowance given to the members is not at all enough and a request to the government has to be submitted to raise it, he said.

Responding to this immediately Jilla Panchayath President Katpadi Shakara Poojary said that this is a good suggestion. Recently the allowance of the MLAs has been raised from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 40,000, but the allowance of the Jilla Panchayath Members has been raised from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 1,100, which is not at all enough. At least to keep the dignity of the Jilla Panchayath Members this allowance has to be raised to at least Rs. 5,000, he opinioned and for this all the members agreed.

Then the members urged that the Jilla Panchayath Member’s Representative in Vidhana Parishat Kota Shrinivas who was present there, has to take up the responsibility to convince the government on this. Answering to this Kota Shrinivas assured that, if a delegation from the Jilla Panchayath comes to Bangalore during the Sadana, he will arrange a meeting with the Chief Minister. Finally it was decided in the meeting to send a delegation to Bangalore.

On the dias Jilla Panchayath Vice President Jyothi Shetty, Sthayee Samithi President Babu Shetty, Sujatha Kotyan, Upendra Nayak, Chief Officer Prabhakara Sharma, Officers Pranesh Rao, Vijayakumar Shetty, Thimmappa were present.

In a democracy only time when all the elected members whole heartedly agree is when there is a suggestion of raising their allowances and perks. Other times "tutu me me me".
