Moodubelle: Students Union Council of St. Lawrence College Inaugurated

Moodubelle, 28 Jun 2012: The Students’ Union Council was formally inaugurated by administering the oath of office to the members in a swearing in ceremony in the College Library Hall on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at 11.45 am.   Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes, Correspondent of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions presided over the programme. Commodore Jerome Castelino, Dean of St. Lawrence College and Principal Dr. Eugene D’Souza were on the dais along with the Correspondent.

 

The swearing in ceremony started with the group of students singing the prayer song.  Principal Dr. Eugene D’Souza administered the oath of office to the members of the students Union Council who took the oath by stretching  forward their right hand.

 

Speaking at this occasion, Commodore Jerome Castelino congratulated the members of the Students Union Council and asked them to abide by the promises that they had made in the oath, especially to uphold, promote and support the vision, Mission, activities and rules and regulations of St. Lawrence College, Moodubelle and also to preserve, protect and defend the dignity and good name of the College.

Dr. Eugene D’Souza in his message said that the college has taken a small step in forming the Students Union Council which is the ‘Government by the students, of the students and for the students’ and this small step would become a giant leap in years to come.  He asked the members of the council to be role models to other students and carry on their responsibilities with sincerity and dedication.

 

In his presidential address, Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes said that the members of the Students Union Council are the leaders. A leader knows the way and leads others on the right path. He made an appeal to the members of the Council to be better leaders and provide leadership not only in the college but also in their respective localities and villages and develop themselves as responsible leaders which the country requires the most.

 

The entire programme was conducted by the students. While Wilson D’Souza of First Year B. Com. compeered the programme, Saritah D’Souza of the same class welcomed the gathering  and Navaz from First Year B.A. proposed the vote of thanks.
