Mangalore: Contribution of George Fernandes recalled

Mangalore, 06 June 2012: George Fernandes Vichara Vedike, Mangalore organized a programme on the occasion of his 82nd birthday at the at Late Ramakrishna Hegde Vedike, Mangalore on Monday, June 4, 2012 at 4 pm. The objective of the programme was to recall the contribution of George Fernandes as trade union leader and politician and his service to South Kanara District, Karnataka and the country. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. M.P. Nadagowda, president of Samyukta Janata Dal, Karnataka.
The guest speakers present for the programme included Yogish Bhat, Deputy Speaker of the Vidhana Sabha, Karnataka, Michael B. Fernandes, Ex-MLC and Labour Leader, J.C. Madhu Swmy, former MLA of Chikkanayakana Halli, Thonse Jayakrishna Shetty, president of Jayakrishna Parisara Samiti, Jayaram Sriyan, Editor of Issues and Concerns, R.L. Dias, president of Railway Passenger Association, S.P. Chengappa, president of Bar Council, Mangalore, Clarence Pais, lawyer and Notary, Mangalore, Commander Pereira, retired Indian Navy.

| Great Man and socialist. He has done great service to the Nation but very less to our South Canara except off-course the Konkani Railway. He promised railway line to Mangalore and stood like a solid rock until it is completed. Went through so many problems in the implimentation, such as diverting the original lines in Goa due to the mass objection owing to avoid fertile land and agreeculture. He had to go test of time when work stopped due to fund but eventually managed thru public share. This his dream line eventually benifitted to all esp. our friends in Kerala. Kerala Goverment did not contribute anything to Konkan until they extended the line to their area and today the majority are Keralites travelling in this train. Anyways, We must salute sir George Fernandes for this important project and benefited immensely to our community. | |
