Moodubelle, 09 Mar 2012: “This by election for the Lok Sabha, in the Chikmagalur-Udupi Constituency is not what the people of these two districts wanted, but imposed on them by the corrupt BJP government. If BS Yeddyurappa, was not forced to resign on charges of corruption and if Sadananda Gowda, who has been the MP from this constituency was not elevated to the position of the Chief Minister of Karnataka, this election which is costing crores of rupees would not have taken place”, said Siddharamayya, the opposition leader in the Karnataka Assembly addressing the election rally in Moodubelle seeking votes for the Congress candidate Jayaprakash Hegde on Friday, March 9, 2012 at 4 pm.

Prominent Congress leaders including Siddharamayya, CM Ibrahim former Union Minister and Dr. Parameshwaran, President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee,  Vinaykumar Sorake, former MP, Ivan D’Souza, Secretary of the KPCC along with other leaders lambasted the BJP government for its alleged misgovernment and misconduct by its ministers and members of the party.

Siddharamaya said that the outcome of the by-election may not bring about drastic change in the government, but it will send the right signal by electing Jayaprakash Hegde, the Congress candidate who is known for his honesty, integrity and pro-people activities. He highlighted the alleged corruption of the ministers in the government including the former chief ministers, the mining scam and the ‘porngate’ in the Legislative Assembly. Siddharamayya also accused the BJP for spreading communal disharmony in the coastal Karnataka.

Vinaykumar Sorake, CM Ibrahim and Dr. Parameshwaran more or less repeated the same allegations. Vinaykumar Sorake highlighted the good work done by the former Congress MPs from the constituency such as Srinivaws Mallya, TA Pai and Oscar Fernandes.  CM Ibrahim was quite sarcastic in his speech and pointed out the misdeeds of the BJP government in general and BS Yeddyurappa in particular. Quoting fluently from the teachings of Purandara Dasa, Basaveshwara and Bhagwadgita, Ibrahim pointed out how the BJP has been deviating from the  path laid down by the sublime teachings of Hinduism.  Lambasting the government on the corruption front, Ibrahim said that it is a record that 11 ministers from the BJP government had to resign on the charges of corruption and misconduct.

Dr. Parameshwaran addressing the rally said that the government has failed in all fronts especially on the delivery of welfare measures to the marginalized section of the society. He alleged that old age pension, widows’ pension and various other welfare schemes lack proper implementation. He strongly decried the fiscal mismanagement and pointed out that nearly half of the budgeted amount has not been spent.

Besides the prominent Congress leaders other local leaders were present for the rally. These included: Vasant V. Salian and B.A. Moiddin- former ministers of Karnataka,  Mrs. Ida Gibba D’Souza, Mrs. Jacinta Aranha, Henry Alva-President of Belle-Kattingeri Congress Local Committee, Hasan Shaikh Ahmad, President of Manipura Grama Panchayat, Harish Kini-President of Alevooru Grama Panchayat, Sarasu Bangera-former Zilla Panchayat President, Preetam Alva, Secretary of NSUI-Mangalore University area and others.

@Anil, let me rephrase what I said - it s the person who is doing the job here and not the party.. we shall talk about person and not condemning other parties. Also remember a person alone can t do this, there are other people involved from other parties as well.. there are good also bad people in all the parties.. So actually you can t say which one is good..
