Annual Day celebrated at the Catholic Hr. Pry. School, Pamboor

Pamboor, 27 Febraury 2012: The annual day of the Catholic Higher Primary School, Pamboor was celebrated on Friday, February 24, 2012.  The annual day started at 9.30 am with the heisting of the school flag by Frederick Menezes, Vice President of the Parish Pastoral  Coouncil of the Holy Cross Church, Pamboor. The morning function was presided over by Rev. Fr. Charles Lewis, Parish Priest of Pamboor. Herald D’Mello, headmaster of the school welcomed the gathering. Leesha Diana, student of 6th standard proposed  the vote of thanks. Jayashree another student of 6th standard compeered the programme.

 

One of the important event during the morning  programme  was  the inauguration of the drinking water facility by Naveen Shetty, proprietor of the stone quarry  who had donated the drinking water facility to the school.  Other guests included Ronald Sequeira, President of the Parents-Teachers Association and Padubelle CRP Sadhu.

 

 

Following the prize distribution to the successful students, sweets were distributed to all present for the programme.

The evening programme started at 6 pm which was compeered by the teacher-Ms. Deepa Gurava. The welcome address was given by Herald D’Mello, headmaster of the school. Rev. Fr. Charles Lewis presided over the programme. Rev. Fr. Joel Rocky D’Souza (OFM-Cap) one of the old students of the school  was the chief guest. Other guests included  Frederick Menezes and Ronald Sequeira.

 

During the programme the retiring teacher  Martin Mendonca was honoured by Rev. Fr. Charles Lewis by presenting him shawl, flowers and fruits. Similarly, Rev. Fr. Joel Rocky D’Souza was also felicitated by Rev. Fr. Charles Lewis.

 

Speaking at this occasion Rev. Fr. Joel said that he is very proud of the school where he spent his early years in securing education. Pointing at the mango tree, Fr. Joel jokingly said that it was the same tree from which he felled tender mangoes by aiming  stones at them.  He said that he would never forget the school which shaped his future life.

Martin Mendonca, the retiring teacher in his speech recalled the happy teaching years that he had spent in the school. He pointed out how the time has changed and the modern teacher should know many things more than just lessons. The teacher also should know many languages so that they can  communicate with the students in the language that they understand.

 

Rev. Fr. Charles Lewis in his message conveyed his blessings to all the students and staff of the school and wished them well in their studies and future life.

 

After the stage programme, students of each and every standard presented variety entertainment programme including dances. They also presented a play on social awareness titled ‘Janaganathi’.

Yea, it is the same mango tree under which I mastered multiplication tables (with then Headmaster Francis Noronha) as well as sharpened sling shot slings (in his absence! The difference possibly is that the tree may be fluent today in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, with some Tulu and Konkanni words thrown in..well, time has really changed
