Abu Dhabi: Grand opening of Kuvempu sammelana

Abu Dhabi, 28 Jan 2012: The Sheikh Zayed auditorium of the Abu Dhabi Indian School witnessed the splendid opening ceremony and inaugural function of “Vishwa Manava Kuvempu Kala Utsava" and 2nd Vishwa Kannada Sammelana Abu Dhabi 2012 on Friday, Jan 27.
KuVemPu was the pen-name of Kuppali Venkatappagowda (December 29, 1904 - November 11, 1994), a great Kannada poet, known as a proponent of Universal Humanism.
The inauguration was preceded by a grand procession with beating of traditional band and drums welcoming the eminent personalities like Padma Shri Dr B R Shetty, Patron UAE Kannadigas, Shri Kumarachandrashekharanatha Swamiji and a host of poets and authors.
Noted writers Dr D Javare Gowda, Dr Mulali Vasantakumar and Dr Lata Rajashekhar from Mysore, Dr Chandrakumari BR Shetty, Dr Rajashekhar, president, Negilayogi organization, Dubai entrepreneur Zafrullah Khan Mandya, Srinivasa Srirangam of Probel Enterprises, Shivanananda Hebbar of Swiss Arabian Perfume – Sharjah, Kuwait entrepreneur Elias Sanctis, D Prakash of Bangalore, C Rajanna of Bangalore and others were present besides well-known dignitaries, artists and singers who had specially flown from Bangalore and elsewhere in Karnataka for the occasion. A large number of Kannadigas from all over UAE followed the procession.
The total ambience of Abu Dhabi Indian School turned into a magnificent Kannada festival to celebrate and honour the poet laureate KuVemPu. Compere Mangala Shetty introduced Kuvempu’s work and zeal for Kannada and for people with a display of his life and works on a large overhead screen.
Traditional lighting of the lamp was led by conference chairperson Lata Rajashekar along with Dr B R Shetty, Shri Kumara Chandrashekaranatha Swamiji, Dr Javare Gowda, Dr (Mrs) C BR Shetty, Dr Rajashekar, Dr Malali Vasantakumar, Zafrullah, Elias Sanctis, Shivanananda Hebbar, Sarvotham Shetty, president of Karnataka Sangha, Abu Dhabi and all other dignitaries on the dais.
This was followed by a welcome song and welcome dance. Sarvotham Shetty, Dr B R Shetty and Dr C BR Shetty were felicitated by Kuvempu Kalaniketana Banalore. Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha felicitated the main sponsors.

| It was indeed a great event. We Kannadigas had a hair raising effect in a foriegn land. Mr. Shetty is a real Doctor for all of us who makes us feel athome in a foriegn land. Kannada is the best script equiped with the best artistic features. Start practicing Kannada script, your designing skills will improve. It is in our hands to make the best design of our Karnataka.
