Chennai, 24 November 2011: He stood 6-foot tall, had everything going his way – a steady job, six-digit salary, beautiful girfriend, close friends but nobody knows what prompted George P George, 28, to hang himself inside his flat in Chennai on Monday.

Son of a Delhi-based brigadier, George, who worked as a manager in a leading insurance company, had reportedly  searched the Internet for tips on committing suicide. “He had even checked the common mistakes people make while hanging themselves. He did not want his suicide attempt to fail,” said a police officer from Choolaimedu police station.

The incident came to light, when George’s friends kept calling him on his mobile on Tuesday but did not get any response. One of his friends, Thomas Alex went to his house near RBI staff quarters at 179 Choolaimedu High Road around 8 am.

He peeped through the window and to his shock saw George hanging from a ceiling fan. Thomas immediately informed the police who lowered the body and sent it for post-mortem. The police recovered George’s laptop and cellphone.

Police said that George had spoken to some of his friends in Chennai and his girlfriend in Hyderabad on Monday night.

“His friends said that he was a very nice guy. However, they don’t know why he committed suicide,” said the police officer.

The cops say that George was in the habit of consuming alcohol. “He was in an inebriated state on Monday night when he hanged himself,” the police said.

His body was handed over to his parents on Tuesday. The family has taken the body to their native place in Ernakulam, Kerala for burial.

George had done his BE (Electrical and Electronics Engineering) from SVCET College, Tiruvallur and his PGDBM from Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies, Pune.

It is very sad that that George did this to himself. We were best buddies in college. Ther is no apparant rhyme or reason which could compel him to conclude his life so abruptly. He has left an unexplained void in my heart which will can never be filled. Thanks for the balanced coverage of this incident.
