Udupi, 13 October 2011: By giving his verdict that, those who are opposing the Udupi Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) are the traitors of the society, Udupi district In Charge Minister Dr. V.S. Acharya has once again expressed his complete support to the controversial UPCL Power Plant. Speaking to the reporters in Kota Dr. Acharya said that, there is demand of 10 million unit power in the 4 district of Mescom limit. After the commissioning of the 1st unit in UPCL, 12 million power is supplied, from this Mescom and also the other Power Companies are benefiting. So those who are opposing such a Power Plant are the traitors of the society, he justified his opinion.

He also justified the clearance given by the government for the commissioning of the 2nd unit of the UPCL even though the people of the surrounding villages are facing difficulties and losses and the issue is still in the court. He said that, the 1st unit of UPCL which is supplying power to most of the demand of the state has now shut down. With this there is power shortage now, so to compensate this the government has given clearance for the commissioning of the 2nd unit of the power plant. So there is nothing wrong in this, he said.

Speaking further he said that, for the power shortage in the state it is the central government who is responsible, because in the state 25 – 30 million unit power has to be generated from the coal based power plants. Now due to the shortage in supply of coal, there is shortage in power. Every kilogram of coal for all the power plants in the state has to be released by the center government. But if the center does not release the coal then what the state government can do, he questioned. But still the coal and power shortage will be resolved by Diwali season, he said.

The minister has wised-up to the harsh realities facing our society, with its ever increasing aspirations to higher standards of living. With rising disposable incomes, our energy use can only rise. Unless we learn to make efficient use of energy, we will face power shortages, even with both units of UPCL operating. Anyone who argues against UPCL operations does not want to see the big picture. The environmental impacts should be addressed technically and legally, and not politically.

Mr. Baptist, do not single out any party for the good or bad!! You are accusing ex MLA!!? Please list out credibility of the roads under current MLA! He has not done any good nor bad!! Nothing worth to list!! May be Salian was bit better!! Take facts before you write!! No point writing when you get hyper! Be realistic! Coruption was much less during SM Krishna time and in Karnataka, specially Bangalore was clean and they had a garbage collection plan!! SMK is Harward educated man...give respect for the way he handled his office!! Nobody will buy your thought when you say SM Krishna s time was more corrupt!! You are talking vague here..Are you not reading any daily news?..(atleast on state rulers and in Q...).have you been to Bangalore after Krishna s time? Do not write rubbish!! Talk about present road conditions of Udupi and surroundigs!! They were much better 10 years ago!! Every vehicle paid tax in 10 years...and they deserve better state roads under any MLA...why are we talking about political party here? Can we not demand better roads immaterial of any party in power? Grow up you kid...be mature!!

Hempil, good you have told the reality of congress. Particularly Vasantha V Salian when MLA, and since one time Shirva people boycott the vote, he left Shirva Udupi road in worst condition for 10 years (After that he never came in power). None of the Shirva people raised voice when congress did this injustice. But at least VS Acharya is not a goonda. He is a humble man whom anybody can approach. The corruption was very high when SM Krishna was CM. Krishna may not be corrupt but during his time his ministers were total corrupt. But sadly that time Lokayuktha etc was not there. Goondagiri in Bangalore by congress is not less even today. And why BJP ministers caught today because JDS and Congress leaders know the tricks of corruption in its entirety. So they can trace BJP very fast. We all know the thickness of tar was been put to the roads. We know they way patch work was been done to Udupi district Roads. Was it only during BJP? It was during congress. And till today everybody face the result of congress legislation. But still BJP can do better, because they have a hope of coming back on power again.

When BJP and its coterie opposed the Indo-American nuclear deal ratification bill in the parliament tooth and nail, engineered the "vote for cash" scam and almost brought down the government, they were not the "traitors" of the society? If there is a shortage of coal why in the first place started the project? To blame the centre?
