‘Divine wrath has singed those who tried to malign me’

Swami Nithyananda recently told advocate C V Nagesh that misfortune has befallen former Tamil Nadu CM Karunanidhi, Dayanidhi Maran and DV Guruprasad because they falsely accused him of wrongdoing.

 

Swami Nithyananda’s latest foible may be interpreted as a brag, but the human demigod believes he has the power to rain down divine retribution on his detractors. He was arrested in April last year on charges of rape and a chargesheet was filed against him by the CID. Nithyananda spent 59 days in jail, but is now out on bail and claims his ‘enemies’ have all been vanquished. 

 

“Those who troubled me in the past are now in trouble,’’ Nithyananda told his advocate, top criminal lawyer C V Nagesh, during a recent meeting, which Bangalore Mirror came to know about from the latter.  

 

To reinforce his claim, the godman trotted out a list of misfortunes which have befallen people who, he believes, perpetrated his fall from grace. Dharmendra, the Ramanagaram police inspector who put Nithyananda behind bars, was caught by Lokayukta sleuths while taking bribe. DV Guruprasad, DGP (retd) and former chief of the CID, who supervised the investigation in the case, was denied the state police chief post despite being the senior-most cop. Moreover, a few days before his retirement, Guruprasad was involved in a road accident and bowed out without a farewell parade. 

“The Lord did not bless Guruprasad because he troubled me. He is now wheelchair-bound,” Nithyananda told Nagesh. 

 

The godman has also made these startling claims to his disciples at his ashram in Bidadi.

 

The swami declared that even his political foes — especially former Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi and his nephew Dayanidhi Maran — are now suffering because they played a big part in the ‘false’ case. Nithyananda claimed Karunanidhi had allowed the conspiracy against him to flourish. 

 

“It all started with a police complaint registered against me in Chennai, which was later transferred to Bangalore. I cursed Karunanidhi and his family. As a result, Karunanidhi lost power and his daughter, Kanimozhi, is in Tihar jail,” Nithyananda claimed.

 

“Maran’s family owns a bouquet of television channels, but they blackmailed me for money. When I did not succumb, they telecast a video (showing the godman in a compromising position with a Tamil actress), tarnishing my image. I cursed them. Today, Maran is out of power. He was forced to resign as union minister for his role in the 2G scam. Very soon he will be in jail.” 

 

Nithyananda and Ranjitha, alleged by TV channels to be the actress in the controversial video, have filed a complaint against the television channel owned by Maran’s family as well as Nakkeeran Gopal, editor and owner of a Tamil weekly.

Nithyananda claims Gopal is “heading for a big ‘Shani Dese’”. He also predicted more suffering would befall those who brought injustice against him, while those who treated him fairly would be rewarded by god. He cited the case of a police officer who brought him back from Shimla, where he was arrested. 

 

“The CID officer treated me with lot of dignity and respect. He did not torture me after my arrest. He has been elevated,” Nithyananda told his advocate. 

 

Speaking to Bangalore Mirror, Nagesh said, “Those who want to believe in this can believe it. The truth is, somebody unconnected with the events filed a complaint. Instead of dismissing it on merits, they troubled him and now they are themselves in all sorts of trouble.’’
