65th Independence Day Celebration in and around Moodubelle

Moodubelle, 15 August 2011: The 65th Independence Day was celebrated with unfurling of the national flag at various educational institutions and organisations in and around Moodubelle with great enthusiasm and reverence to the nation. India completed 64 years of independence when it became free from the British rule on 15 August 1947.
St. Lawrence Church
After the 8 am Mass, the programme of unfurling of the Indian National Flag was held in front of the church at 9 am. Fr. Joswey Fernandes, parish priest of Moodubelle unfurled the flag. The programme was attended by A.K. Alva and Mrs. Jacinta D’Souza, Vice President and Secretary of the of the Parish Pastoral Council and a large number of parishioners.
In his message, Fr. Joswey Fernandes said that though India had become independent 64 years ago there are many problems from which the nation has to be liberated. Corruption is ne of the major issue that is affecting people from every section of the society. He exhorted the parishioners to imbibe the values of life and contribute to the nation as responsible citizens.
The Independence Day programme was organised by the ICYM Unit of Moodubelle. Royston Alva, president of the ICYM welcomed the gathering, Alwyn Lobo, Vice President of ICYM cmpeered the programme and proposed the vote of thanks. Sweets were distributed at the end of the programme which were sponsored by Johnson Miranda and maxim D’Sa.
St. Lawrence English Medium High School
The Independence Day Programme was held at 9.30 am. Besides Fr. Joswey Fernandes, Correspondent of the Parish Educational Institutions, Fr. Lancy Saldanha, Principal and A.K. Alva, Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council, Dr. Eugene D’Souza, Media Coordinator of Bellevision Media Network attended the programme as the chief guest. A.K. Alva, Vice President of the parish pastoral Council was the guest of honour.
Fr. Joswey Fernandes received the salute from the students who presented march past accompanied by the music of the band. Dr. Eugene D’Souza unfurled the national flag and gave the Independence Day message to the students. After extending the greetings of the Independence Day to all, Dr. Eugene D’Souza highlighted the importance of the celebration of the Independence Day from the point of view of the students. He said that as a building can be constructed by brick by brick, so also a nation can be built by good individual citizens. He said that educational institutions are the nurseries where good and responsible citizens are formed. He made an appeal to the students to fulfil their responsibilities and grow physically and intellectually to become ideal citizens of the great nation.
Following the unfurling of the flag and the message of Dr. D’Souza, students presented cultural programme in the school hall. Two students-Viola Mathias from Seventh Standard and Roslyn Menezes from Ninth Standard delivered speeches on Independence Day. Primary Section students presented a beautiful dance t the tune of a patriotic song. A group of students also presented a patriotic song. The skit on Jallianawalla Bagh incident was well presented by the students.
Principal, Fr. Lancy Saldanha and Correspondent, Fr. Jswey Fernandes gave their Independence Day message to the students. The programme was also attended by the teachers, non-teaching staff and parents.
St. Lawrence Composite PU College
Fr. Paul Sequeira, Principal of St. Lawrence Composite PU College presided over the Independence Day Programme. Ronald Aranha, the past student of the institution and sponsor of the Computer Laboratory was the chief guest who unfurled the national flag.
The Girls Volleyball team that had achieved success in the recently held inter- PU collegiate tournament with runners-up position was honoured by the chief guest by presenting them prizes.
The Independence Day Programme was compeered by Joy Fernandes. Lovin D’Souza welcomed the gathering and Royal D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks.
Church Aided Higher Primary School
In the Church Aided Higher Primary School, the Independence Day was observed with the Headmaster of the school, Raphael Aranha unfurling the national flag.
During a brief programme, students of the school who had participated in various competitions were given prizes and later all the students were served with sweets. The prizes and sweets were sponsored by the Canara Bank, Moodubelle Branch.
Shri Mahabhaleshwara Hindu Anudhanitha Higher Primary School, Edmeru
The 65th Independence Day Programme was presided over by Mrs. Jacinta Aranha, President of the Belle Grama Panchayat. The unfurling of the flag was conducted by Gururaj Bhat. The programme was attended by Shivarama Salian, member of the Belle Grama Panchayat, belle Mohandas Shetty, President of the School Management, Sitaram Shetty, Secretary, Mrs. Helen D’Souza, Ganesh Nayak and Dinakara Bhandary, President and Secretary of the Nisarga Yuvaka Mandala, Edmeru, Govind Jogi, Contractor of Palli, Bhaskara Shetty, Senior Teacher and other eminent personalities from Edmeru.
The Headmaster of the school, Vivekananda Shetty welcomed the gathering and compeered the programme. After the programme, students were served with sweets sponsored by some eminent donors.
