As part of the programme known as ‘Congressnadige Janarabalige’ that is being organized throughout Karnataka on the directives of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, the local Congress leaders and workers assembled at the residence of Henry Alva in Moodubelle. Besides the local leaders, Panchayat members and workers, the meeting was attended by Vasant Salian-former minister in the Karnataka Government, Gangadhar Suvarna-Congress Block President of Kaup and Mrs. Ida Gibba D’Souza, member of the Udupi Zilla Panchayat. The meeting was presided over by Mrs. Jacinta Aranha-President of the Belle Grama Panchayat. The meeting was compeered by Harish Shetty who also welcomed the guests and Congress workers.
In his introductory address, Gangadhar Suvarna highlighted the importance of the programme of the elected leaders and workers going to the people to explain various schemes of the Central Government meant for the villages. He also mentioned about the constitution of the ‘Grama Samiti’ comprising of 20 members headed by a President, three Vice Presidents, Secretaries and Joint Secretaries.
The outgoing President of the Local Congress Committee, A.G. D’Souza, who has been appointed as the Block Committee Member, said that during the past ten years, as the president of the Local Congress Committee he had worked hard to build up the Congress organization in the Belle Grama Panchayat jurisdiction and hoped that the work of strengthening the Congress at the grass-root level will continue under the new President. Next, he proposed the name of Henry Alva for the post of the President of the Grama Samiti which was unanimously approved. The other office bearers of the Grama Samiti will be eventually selected.
In his keynote address, Vasant Salian complimented A.G. D’Souza, the outgoing President of the Local Congress Committee and Paul Fernandes, the previous President for their contribution in building up the Congress organization in Belle and hoped that Congress will be strengthened further under the presidentship of Henry Alva.
Speaking further, Vasant Salian said that the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee has asked all the local elected representatives and workers to organize meetings at their respective localities from 15 July to 14 August under the theme of ‘Congressnadige Janarabalige’ with an aim of strengthening the Congress organization at the grass-root level, to acquaint the people regarding the various Central Government Schemes, to take a stock of the projects for which funds have been sanctioned by the Central Government and how much work is being carried out and to expose the corruption and misdeeds of the present BJP Government in the state.
Meanwhile, the news of the resignation of Yeddyurappa as the Chief Minister of Karnataka following the report on the mining scam presented by the Lokayukta, Justice Santosh Hegde, was greeted with applause by the Congress workers present at the meeting.
Continuing further, Vasant Salian pointed out that a number of Central Government Schemes for which the funds come from the Central Government are being presented by the state government as if they are their own programmes. Vasant Salian gave the example of the Ambulance Service ‘108’ for which the Central Government provides 85 percent grants. However, in Karnataka it is found that on such ambulances the pictures of Yeddyurappa and state health minister are displayed indicating as if the programme is solely run by the state government. He also said that various Central Government Programmes such as Pradhan Mantri Grama Sadak Yojane, Sarva Shikshan Abhiyan, Hot Midday Meal for School Children, etc are Central Government sponsored programmes which should be brought to the notice of the villagers. Vasant Salian also made an appeal to the Congress workers to work together to strengthen the organization at the village level and expose the misdeeds of the BJP government in Karnataka.
Vasant Salian also asked the panchayat leaders to organize meetings with the aggrieved villagers who are being put to a lot of inconvenience by the administration such as disconnecting gas supply under various excuses. He said that a list of such aggrieved people should be prepared which could be presented to the district officials.
Congratulations henry alva, wish you all the best and good luck. I would like to see you in white trouser too very soon, not only with white shirt. Please ignore those scrap comments on capital letters without proper name to make out their gender. I think they are very jealous on your recent achievements. They are bjp Christians and no guts to put their real name in their comments. Once again best of luck.
Congratulations Mr Henry Alva. Do not yield to corrupt practices. Let service be your motto and win the hearts of the people by being honest and strong in the principles of justice and fair play. Your mission will succeed. good luck.
