M’belle: Cash Awards given to top scorers in SSLC and PUC

Moodubelle, 18 July 2011: Cash awards were given to the top scoring students of St. Lawrence P. U. College, who brought honours to the Institution in the S.S.L.C. and P.U.C. exams held in last April, in a felicitation ceremony held in the College on Saturday 16th July 2011. The cash awards were sponsored by the old student of the Institution Mr. Ravindranath Rao Bangalore in memory of his mother Mrs. Padmavathi Vittal Rao – Retired Principal and also Vidana Parishat member.

 

The program was presided over by Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes – Correspondent of the College and Parish Priest of St. Lawrence Church, Moodubelle. Chief guests and other dignitaries present on the occasion were; Mr. Alphonse Alva – Member of Management Committee, Mr. Devdas Hebbar - Old Student and Udupi Taluk Panchayath President, Mrs. Shilpa Nayak – President of Parents Teachers Association, Rev. Fr. Lancy Saldhana - Principal of St. Lawrence English Medium High School, the sponsors of the awarding ceremony; Mr. Sadananda Rao, Mr. Dev Rao, Mrs. Vyjayanthi and Rev. Fr. Paul Sequeira – Principal of the College.

 

The program began with the prayers by the students. Rev. Fr. Paul Sequeira welcomed the guests and the gathering. Mrs. Leena D’Silva in her introductory speech said that, the cash awards given to the students to encourage them shall be properly utilized and it is the duty of the students. It is not easy to score high marks, only those who studied hard and succeeded in scoring high marks knows the difficulties in achieving it. They have now received the reward for their hard work. Also, the remaining students have worked hard, have succeeded but for some reasons could not get the distinction, she said.

 

 

Mr. Sadananda Rao gave away the cash awards to the top scorers and congratulated them. He also addressed the students and spoke about the education. On behalf of the cash awardees, Prasanna R. Prabhu spoke and thanked for the awards. Mr. Dev Rao and Mrs. Vyjayanthi honoured the Teachers of the Institution who have been serving the Institution, with momentos. Mr. Sadananda Rao and Mr. Albert Castelino were felicitated by Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes.

 

In his presidential address, Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes said that the students need such encouragement, their talent should blossom and the Institution is working to achieve this. With such kind of cash awards the future of the students might get brighter. With the service we can provide any kind of contribution to the society, he said.
