Alevoor: “Kesard Onji Dina” a muddy field spots and games

Alevoor, Udupi, 04 July 2011: With the city culture spreading into every village these days, the village culture is vanishing. In order to preserve this village culture the young generation is to be attracted towards the village soil, but how? To this question the elders found the answer ‘muddy field sports and games’. On a rainy day the youth folded their pants, got rid off their shoes, in the pouring rain they jumped into the leveled wet knee deep muddy field, played, ran, rolled over, splashed the mud into the sky… it wss full of fun.

 
In Alevoor near Udupi, like every year the Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Samiti had organized “Kesard Onji Dina” muddy field sports and games on Sunday at a field next to the Nailapade river. In this fun filled sports program, thousands of locals; children, men and women participated and enjoyed every bit of it forgetting their age differences. 

 

 

Games competitions in the wet field such as; running race, tug of war, thappangayi, reverse running and volleyball were conducted. Along with the games the youth danced to the beats of the “dole” by Badiya Koraga team, forgetting that they are in the muddy wet field.

 
The competitions were inaugurated with the launching of a pair of local kambala buffalos belonging to Suresh Shetty, Thenkumane, into the muddy field. Chief Guest of the program Alevoor Grama Panchayath President Harish Kini spoke and said that these muddy field sports and games are not just for the entertainment, but this wet soil also has decease resistance power, hence this is also good in the health point of view, he said.

 
On this occasion Mumbai entrepreneur Umesh Shetty, local entrepreneur Karthik Shetty, Grama Panchayath member Ashok Kumar, Social activist Alevoor Nagaraja were also present. Ganeshothsav Samithi President Gopal G., Hon. President Shekar Kalmadi and others led the organizing of the games.
