Udupi: LIC to launch new health insurance plan

Udupi, 31 May 2011: Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) which was limited only to life insurance since 54 years has stepped into health insurance field now. The new policy “Jeevan Arogya” which covers the hospital expenses of the policy holder will be released countrywide on Wednesday. L.I.C. Udupi Divisional Officer B. A. Almeida gave the information on this new policy, during a press conference on Tuesday.

 

Jeevan Arogya is a special common (non linked) insurance policy and according to the different age groups the annual premium will have to be paid. Along with the life insurance it will also provide health insurance protection up to 80 years. There is a provision in this policy to include the family members, parents and also father-in-law and mother-in-law.

 

There is also provision in this policy to cover the expenses of 140 various surgeries and 140 various treatments. If admitted to hospital for more than one week, from the first day itself the hospital expenses from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 4,000 per day will be paid by the policy. If the patient is admitted in Intensive Care Unit (I.C.U.) the amount will be doubled.

 

 

 

 

 

 

In the first year of the purchase of the policy, 30 days expenses will be covered by the policy and the years after the first year, 90 days hospital expenses will be covered by the policy. Major surgery coverage facility can be obtained for only 8 times in the lifetime by the policy holder. Also, there is provision to receive Rs. 1,000 for ambulance expenses in this policy.

 

The insurance amount can be collected from L.I.C. office by producing the hospital expenses bills in accordance to the policy value. If the policy holder has to undergo surgery, then there is provision to receive half amount of the cost in advance.
